Horsetail Tackling 101

We all know how ruff horsecollar tackling in the NFL can be.  It's brutal, very effective, but illegal. The LFL shows vividly that you can't really tackle a horse by its tail.  Butt it's legal, fun for everyone (except the stoner on the MTV2 delay switch), and really spurs the runner into overdrive when it happens... Check out the frame-by-frame of L.A. Tempation's Ashley Salerno skampering in true naked bootleg form into the endzone.  Ashley lead her squad past the Las Vegas Sin Read more [...]

Giants to play 49ers in first annual “Going to Lose to the Patriots Bowl”

Read the title.

Packers versus Saints! 55-51!

Oh wait. Shit. Rewind…

Holy Fucking David Tyree

I swear to my cousin Pete - yes, I literally have a cousin, named Pete, who's a Giants fan... that was an awesome game. Yes, I am blogging at you at 3am. I still am in a bit of shock that the Giants actually beat the Packers. I would've bet you dollars to donuts on the Pack taking care of business. Yet somehow the Giants are the team that continues to take down world beaters in the midst of mediocre seasons. And now for my typical rant: my cousin Pete, the Giants fan, still probably takes more Read more [...]

Reid’s Passion out of Fashion in Philly

Eagle fans, what did that win over the Dolphins bring us? Hope? Excitement? Just nothing but a smug and secure Reid taking a jab at the media and South Philly during his weekly radio show. It did nothing to fix the gaping holes of talent, scheme and coaching that will be plowed through by the Jets today.   When Anthony Gargano of WIP asked Reid about the magic of Tebow, Reid went on about how positive he is and how it raises everyone on that team.  He then mockingly said that Tebow reminds Read more [...]

Phillies Resigning Rollins is a Good Thing

As soon as the Phillies season ended prematurely, there was talk in this town of a potential upgrade at shortstop. Yes, admittedly, Jimmy Rollins is getting up there in age with diminishing numbers at the plate. However , all one has to do is look at the current  Eagles situation to see what can happen when the front office  plays  fantasy sports, basing  all key decisions on statistics alone. There is  something to be said for leadership, chemistry, and clutchness under pressure. Rollins is Read more [...]

Flyers Still Undefeated in December, But at What Price?

This is worrisome, from Comcast SportsNet: "Star forward Claude Giroux suffered a head injury in the second period and left the game. Before the injury, Giroux had two assists to add to his NHL-high point total of 39 (16 goals and 23 assists) and extended his point streak to five games (three goals and seven assists for 10 points). Giroux took an inadvertent knee to the head by Simmonds at center ice in the last minute of the second period and did not return for the final period. The Read more [...]

Why Does Reid Love Michael Vick?

I think I've figured it out. Reid loves gadgets, toys, and wants to reinvent the game. Hey, he's a man, I can understand that: I'm a dude who likes hacking TiVos, fixing computers, and running multisite WordPress installations. Yeah, I'm a dork. Memo: Andy's a big fucking dork. When Ronnie Brown brought the wildcat into Miami, I'm pretty sure Andy Reid had an instant hard-on. OOOH! Gadgets! Toys! Weird shit to do! I totally enjoyed the moment against Houston in 2004, when my favorite Read more [...]

So About Last Night’s Flyers Game…

It was great to see the Flyers get out to a 3-0 lead. That was awesome. It was great to see Jagr and Talbot play against their former team. Before I continue this rant, first things first. It is important that every Philadelphian know a very important development. So I was sitting in a bar in the year 1999, watching Jaromir Jagr play for the Penguins, and let's face it, they guy is balls to the wall and not the kind of pussy Crybaby is. I respect Malkin, but Cindy Crybaby gets under my skin. Read more [...]

Phillies Set Franchise Record for Wins

After a thrilling 13 innings last night, the Phillies  knocked the Atlanta Braves out of the wildcard, and along the way set a franchise single season record of won 102 games !  Cole Hamels needed only strikeouts to hit the 200 mark for 2011 but Chralie Manuel only pitched him for a couple innings. The Phillies pitching staff came close to having three of their aces hit 200 strikeouts, which has not occurred since 1969. regardless, those 3 top aces finished the year in the top 5  for Strikeout Read more [...]

Oswalt Clinches 5th Straight Division Title for Phillies

The Ace of Clubs, Roy Oswalt, pitched 7 strong shutout innings to lead the Phillies to their 5th consecutive division title. With 98 wins and 12 games left, the Phillies would win and astounding 104 wins, just by playing .500 ball for the rest of the season! That would shatter the 1976 record of 101 wins. Roy's fastball is back to old form, visible by the recent increase in his strikeout counts. He will definitely be the #4 pitcher heading into the playoffs with Worley giving needed middle inning Read more [...]

Cliff Lee Reaches 200 Strikeouts

So in addition to reaching the 200 Strikeout Club for the first time in his career, as well as  continuing his streak of scoreless innings to almost 30 innings, Cliff Lee caught up to Roy Halladay in wins last night after the Phillies 9-0 crushing of the Atlanta Braves. His 16th win puts him on pace with Doc Halladay to achieve 20 for the season. Cole Hamels will not reach 20 wins, only  due to the time lost from his injury but can still reach the 200 K milestone. Halladay will most likely  reach Read more [...]

Oswalt Gets Two Straight Wins Against the Nats

So you have the Big 3, Halladay, Lee and Hamels, tearing up the league, all in the top 10 in wins and strikeouts,  you have Vance Worley making himself a candidate for rookie of the year and honorary 4th ace in Roy Oswalt's absence, and let's not forget Kyle Kendrick who has been solid in middle inning relief who also doubles as a solid 5th starter as injuries hit the staff. But most importantly, you now have the successful return of the Ace of Clubs, Roy Oswalt, from the disabled list,  notching  Read more [...]

Cliff Lee Gets 5th Shutout & Roy Oswalt Returns to the Rotation

It does always seem to be sunny in the Philadelphia Phillies dugout these days. Not only does Cliff Lee cut down the Giants for his major league leading 5th shutout, giving the Phillies their 7th straight win,  and extending their NL east lead to 8.5 games, but their Ace of Clubs, Roy Oswalt is schedule to make his big return on Sunday. Cliff Lee became the first Phillies pitcher since Steve Carlton in 1972 to reach the 5 shutout mark. And if you include his shutout earlier in the season that Read more [...]

Chooch Makes the SI Cover!

The entire Phillies pitching staff graced the cover of Sports Illustrated during preseason, and now , here we are at the all-star break and Carlos Ruiz gained that same spot. Why not give props to the "Ace Receiver" as coined by former Daily News writer Gary Smith. (the same writer as the original piece for SI about the Phillies Aces) All Hail Chooch! Read more [...]

Halladay & Lee Are the 1-2 Punch for the NL All-Star Team

The Phillies Aces set the tone for the National League’s 5-1 victory by recording the first 11 outs of the game. Cliff Lee gave up a solo shot in the end of the 4th inning but that was the only run to be scored by the American league. (Cole Hamels did not pitch due to a recent start) This means home field advantage in the World Series belongs the National league. Assuming the Phillies make it, that’s also an extra game where our aces can show off their prowess at the plate. The odds of the Phillies Read more [...]

3 Phillies Aces Are All-Stars & an Ace Even Goes Deep – Not a Bad Week!

The reputation of the 4 Aces was solidified when Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Cole Hamels were all picked to represent the Phillies in the 2011  All-Star Game, to be played July 12 in Arizona. It’s the first time in the 78 year history of the mid-season classic that the Phillies are sending three starting pitchers to the roster. It’s certainly not a shock that three of four Phillies Aces are on the NL All-Star team. Cole Hamels, the Ace of Diamonds and Roy Halladay, the Ace of Spades, Read more [...]

Doc Halladay Gets 11th win!

The Ace of Spades, Doc Halladay, returned to his old stomping ground at Rogers Centre in Toronto and received a standing ovation, even before he threw the first pitch. Nine inning later, Roy finished up his league leading 6th complete game of the year and earned his 11th win of the season. He could actually have 12 by the all star break as the Ace of Spades is scheduled to pitch one more time against the braves. (the last Phillies series before the break) Doc proved that he was a little mortal Read more [...]

Cliff Lee Pitches 3 Consecutive Shutouts!

Cliff lee hurled his third consecutive complete game shutout against the Boston Red Sox. The last time that milestone was accomplished by a Phillies pitcher, Harry Truman was president of the United States. Yes, you have to go all the way back to 1950 when Robin Roberts pitched back to back to back shutout games. Even more impressive, take a look at all of Lee's June starts, where he went 5-0 with a miniscule .21 ERA. Are you kidding me? That dropped his era all the way down to 2.66 and by collecting Read more [...]

Hamels & Halladay On Pace For 20 Wins!

Cole Hamels pitched 8 stellar shutout innings tonight, picking up his 8th win! That puts him even with Roy Halladay among the Phillies pitching staff,  barely past a third into the season. So if you are like me and crunching the numbers in your head, it should now be clear that both aces are on pace to surpass 20 wins this season! The last time the Phillies had multiple 20 game winners in the same season was prior to the modern baseball era. You have to go all the way back to 1916 with Grover Read more [...]
